Thanksgiving 2019

I’m am relatively certain that most of you have seen the Wonder Woman onesie picture that my sister posted. It’s a riot!!! I laughed so hard at this before anyone even knew what was coming!! As usual, me, my mom, and my sister were messaging each other with what we were bringing to Thanksgiving dinner. After several conversations and as it started getting closer to Thanksgiving, I sent a message confirming the food I was bringing and finding out if there was anything else I was forgetting. Traci, my sister, immediately sent back a message saying something along the lines of “don’t forget we are all wearing onesies”. I knew she was joking and I laughed so hard and replied with a GIF.

The Onesie

A couple of years ago, I bought Kym and Wonder Woman onesie as a joke and it was still in the package. YEAH!! Let’s get it out now!! I tried it on – LAWDY LAWDY!! It was like zipping myself into a second skin. Oh well!! The show must go on. When Thanksgiving arrived, I took a shower and fixed my hair and makeup. When I was sufficiently presentable, I turned to Kym and let her know it was time to put on the sausage casing. I made it the last possible thing I had to do because although the idea of a onesie is to be comfortable, this was not my size so it fit awkwardly in a few places. Thankfully I didn’t bust any seams or the zipper when I sat down to put on my shoes.

I drove all the way to mom’s wearing this onesie. It’s not super far, only about a 40 minute drive, but the fear of being pulled over or having a flat in that 40 minutes was high!! I was also keenly aware that there were plenty of people in bigger vehicles that could see into my window as we were stopped at traffic lights. Surely they were wondering why in the heck I was wearing a Wonder Woman outfit.  Didn’t matter – I knew the laughter would be worth it.

We strategically parked at mom’s house so they couldn’t see me until I came around the corner. Kym went in first and tried to lure them outside by suggesting I needed some help getting bags out of the car. Kym gave me an audible signal when mom came outside so I casually stepped around the corner and mom started laughing wildly. Half of the mission was accomplished!! Mom was bent over, holding her hand over her mouth, and laughing so hard. This is definitely the best way to start the holidays. The door was still open so I yelled for Traci to come help me. She stepped out of the kitchen and around the couch, and was heading out the door when she caught sight of me. Repeat the same laughter scene as before!! I think she was shocked.

Wonder Woman

Before I could put my bags down, Traci was snapping pictures and uploading to Facebook! Kynlee was scared because she has never seen “Aunt Toshie” dressed so weirdly. She she ran to Granddad and hid her face. She would turn around and look at me and then hide again. I don’t know if it was the outfit, the front door photo shoot, or the uncontrollable laughter from everyone.

Back to Normal Activities

After the entrance had been made and the pictures had been taken, I took my bag into the back and peeled myself out of the onesie. Once I was in my regular, every day clothes, Kynlee was no longer scared and we were able to get back into cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

While we waited, we took pictures and played on Snapchat! Why isn’t this filter a little more clear. I can see that it is supposed to be a turkey. Butttttttt…………………………uummmmmmm

I grabbed this picture of Traci, taking care of the food in the oven.  I guess she thought she was going to be dealing with the food for an extended period.  Good thing she has long arms.  I would have burned my armpits if I tried that.

Thanksgiving 2019

We played with Snapchat while all the food was warming.

Tons of Food

We had an enormous amount of food, as always. While in the kitchen, waiting on food to get finished, we snacked on a bacon and cheddar cheese ball, pepper jelly over cream cheese, and salsa with crackers and chips. For dinner we had a beer in the butt hen, dressing, homemade cranberry sauce, loaded mashed potatoes, beer potatoes, corn casserole, green beans, gravy, deviled eggs, homemade bread, and sausage balls.

After eating, our tradition is to put up the Christmas tree and play. After putting all the decorations on the tree, we played a little football and basketball outside for a little while. Mom brought out the pumpkin pie, buttermilk pie, and cookies.  Ohmygosh!  I was still so stuffed that I could barely eat a whole piece of pie.  Mom’s tree this year was a tall, skinny tree.  It was so much easier to put up and decorate than her monster tree from the previous years.  We didn’t have all the decorations that mom wanted to put on the tree so we only partially decorated it.  But we played with everything!

Black Friday Shopping

Time to clean the kitchen.  Worst part of the holidays, right?  Traci had a headache so she stayed in the living room while we cleaned and made big to-go pans of leftovers.  When we finished cleaning, Kym and I got ready to leave while mom and Traci got ready to go Black Friday shopping.   This is something that is a tradition for lots of people but I am so done with Black Friday shopping.  Mostly it’s because they have encroached into Thanksgiving so it is no longer Black Friday, it’s Black Thursday or Black Thanksgiving.  I hate that retail employees are having to leave their families on a holiday so that consumers can buy stuff a few hours earlier.  Why can’t we wait another 9-12 hours to buy stuff??  Let everyone have the opportunity to spend time with their families.  Also, I had such a bad experience a few years ago during a Black Friday shopping trip (when it was still on FRIDAY) that I have no desire to repeat the mess.  We stood in line at Target for so long that people in line around us sent members of their group to other stores because they were opening.  Those people left, got to Sears, bought the Black Friday items, and came back to Target before we were even close to checking out at Target.  Ridiculous.  I have enjoyed several years of shopping at 4am for deals, running on coffee and Thanksgiving leftovers, but I won’t do it anymore.

Thanksgiving 2019

I love spending time with my family. It’s a luxury that some people don’t have so I try not to take it for granted.  Thanksgiving is the favorite holiday for a lot of people.  Why?  Because it is a day to celebrate how thankful we are and spend time with family.

Second Thanksgiving

Our first set of plans ended up getting changed because of a water issue.  But we are not quitters!!  Even though we had to wait an extra week, we were still able to have Thanksgiving with Kym’s family.  We had a smorgasbord of food, as usual.  Homemade salsa with chips, bacon and cheddar cheese ball with crackers, deviled eggs, chicken and dumplins, pot of beans, ham, beer potatoes, sausage balls, fried chicken, raisin pie, pecan pie, and coconut pie.  So much delicious food with family.

Raibourns

Hearing Things

We always love playing games, indoor or outdoor, with everyone after we eat.  It was a little cool on the day we had our Raibourn Thanksgiving so we brought an indoor game – Hearing Things.  You may remember seeing the videos we posted at my mom’s house of us playing this game.  It’s a truly hysterical game!

Kym and Blake

Do you know how hard it is to read a card so that someone can read your lips?  Honestly, not that hard.  Not hard until you start laughing because of the random words they are yelling out because your lips are not as precise as it feels.

You certainly need to empty your bladder before your start this game.

Tasha and MaKenna

There was no winner of this game.  We all won because we were laughing and spending time with family.  I can’t even call it a small win.  When you spend time with family, it is a big win!!
