Shivers and Boorman Trail

As the weather gets cooler, it’s so much easier to talk myself into getting outside!  Don’t get me wrong.  I love summer and all the activities that go along with the weather.  I also hate the winter and all the layers that are required when going outside.  But, when the temperature is 99 degrees, the humidity is 80%, and the heat index is 115, I have a real hard time convincing myself to go outside as long as the AC is working inside!!

Shivers

One of the great things about fall/autumn is the fall flavors at Shivers.  {Side note: why are we no longer calling it autumn?  Maybe because fall is so much easier to say?  I have no idea.}  OK, back to Shivers….

Did you try the Fall Flavors?  They are delicious and I can confirm they are a perfect way to take a break and relax.  It’s a fantastic way to spend a little time with friends in a wonderful atmosphere.  For all the latest flavors and events (such as movie nights), check out their Facebook page here or go to their website www.ShiversNaturalSnow.com.   They are currently closed for the season but I highly recommend going as soon as they open again.

Some great friends of ours called and asked if we wanted to meet at Shivers.  Of course!!  We met and stood in line but the weather was fantastic.  There were people scattered all over the area, some getting flowers from the flower truck, some sitting at picnic tables, kids running around playing and laughing, and small groups of people talking everywhere.  Don’t be intimidated by the long lines when you get to Shivers because they are efficient and it doesn’t take long at all.  We all got different flavors and then sampled a bite of each of them.  We had a Salty Sally, a Caramel Apple, a Peppermint Patty, and a S’more Please.  The flavors were amazing!

Isn’t this the most adorable flower truck?!?!  You may have seen this truck cruising around Longview.  How fantastic is it that you can pick out each specific flower to build your bouquet?  The bouquets you can buy are beautiful but it makes each bunch personal when you can select each flower that you want.  Please check out this Flower Truck the next time you can and let’s all help the journey of this florist.  Check out the Facebook page here to find out where she will be so you can design your perfect bouquet!!!

Boorman Trail

Being outside is rejuvenating when the temperature is falling.  It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy Boorman Trail.  There are numerous walking trails in Longview but we usually visit Boorman because of the 2 dog parks located on the trail.  It gives us the opportunity to walk with the dogs and then let them run with the other dogs before we go home.

Quick selfie at the dog park!!

We love talking to people and we ran into a couple that also brings their dogs to the park.  They told us about seeing a snake in the shaded / brown park when it was flooded in the low areas of the park.  They told us it was a water moccasin / Cottonmouth snake.  I cannot verify the validity of the information because I have never seen a snake at either of the dog parks.  All the same, please be aware of your surroundings if you are out there walking around!!  Snakes can get anywhere and everywhere but we tend to get a little lax when we haven’t seen one for a while.

Some encounters leave a lasting impression…..my mom’s story is the perfect example of this.  She was taking a bath in her large jetted tub several years ago. She did not have the jets on, but she noticed something from the corner of her eye when she was about halfway through her bath……..it was a small snake sneaking his way into her water from one of the jets.  Can you even imagine?!?  In the most vulnerable position….alone, butt-naked, and soaking wet and a stinkin snake comes creeping into your space???   NO MA’AM!!   No one has any idea how he got in the jet area, but we know how he was getting out!!  We also have no idea how mom got out of the tub without killing herself or breaking something!!  Since that day, mom has never taken a bath in that tub again!!  Can’t say I blame her!!

Helpful info: bar of soap in bed

I recently had the opportunity to speak to a couple of wonderful women.  During the conversation, I learned that both of them sleep with a bar of soap at the foot of their bed and that keeps them from getting leg cramps.  Have you heard of this?  Stick an opened bar of soap under the fitted sheet near the area that you have cramping and you won’t have cramps anymore!!  WHAT?!?!  They both swear by this remedy.

Be grateful for where you are and the progress you have made.  Be excited for all the improvements on the way.  Every journey begins with a single step, so lace up your shoes and GO!!!!!
