Puppy Love

These adorable sweethearts are my fur babies, Auggie and Kailani.  We spotted them on www.hopeforpetsrescue.com and submitted our application for adoption.  We fell in love with these dogs before we met them and we spent hours buying new toys, dog beds, treats, collars, and leashes.  After a few days of verifying our information, we were able to pick them up and it was a glorious day.  They were fostered in 2 different homes but bonded immediately and have been inseparable since that day.  Kailani, the labrador mix, is 4 months older but Auggie, the border collie, is the boss.  They wasted no time in making themselves at home on the couch.  I will say this for anyone who has forgotten………puppies are a lot of work!!  My dogs were 15-17 years old when they passed away so it had been a long long time since I chased a puppy around.  WOW!!  Kai was older so she was easier to potty-train but Auggie required a lot more work, and a lot more patience.  Tricks and commands were learned quickly but apparently teaching “you cannot randomly stop playing and tinkle wherever you are standing” was a little harder.  Trying to catch them before or during the tinkle is a hard thing to do if you expect to have the time to get a glass of water, or fix lunch, or take a shower!!  Honestly, it was completely worth all of the work because these two characters bring a level of joy to my life that makes the sun shine a little brighter.

Here is one of my all-time favorite pictures of them laying in the backyard.  It is rare to catch them when they are still and both looking at the camera.  This was taken shortly after bringing them home.

I encourage you to consider adopting when you are ready to bring a new pet into your home.  Hoards of animals are waiting in shelters and foster homes for a family to give all their love to.  Save a life!
